About

ALIFE is a place to explore new theories of life and evolution. It is also about exploring new philosophies and methodologies in the age of superintelligent AI. ALIFE’s long-standing theme is Open-Ended Evolution (OEE), the mechanism by which life evolves continuously and creatively. How do humans come up with new ideas? Why do new technologies continue to be created? OEE can have a structure similar to human imagination and creativity. Therefore, we would like to explore something common to both to find new tips for your further challenges. At TOKYO ALIFE 2020, we will see new advances in ALIFE supported by novel ideas and technologies in VR, AR, and generative art.

SYMBIOTIC VIEW OF LIFE

新しい時代の共生

Sessions

Session 1  From AI to ALIFE

Several AI trends, starting with Hinton’s paper on deep learning, pose fundamental questions about what intelligence is, where we come from and where we are going. These issues have been the subject of ALIFE for many years, and now a new wave of ALIFE is about to begin.

Session 2  Life Created from Art

A side-effect of ALIFE is that it is giving artistic expression a new and vital device or expression, which is now more than a side-effect, becoming a larger movement. Here we discuss new art expressions using the cutting edge ideas and technologies from AI and ALIFE and discuss new developments in art.

Session 3  Reorganizing Reality

Virus has been making many of everyday life into isolated on-line life. Many people thus began to think about the sense of reality in virtual spaces; the granularity of space and time. We will discuss the AR/VR issue as a matter of life.

Session 4  Symbiotic View of Life

We are just one member of a larger scale ecosystem, and COVID-19 makes this point very clear. Parasites and viruses are unavoidable, as the ALife study makes clear. We should consider co-existing and co-evolving with them.
